The 1950s Cottage
1950s Cottage
Our old house! This was a labor of love restoring this mid century cottage back to glory whilst updating it for contemporary living. Once completed, we sold it, passing the keys onto another family who will create their own memories within it’s comforting walls. For us, it was onto the next old home…
Scope
The whole house! There aren’t many walls which were untouched in this place. We reconfigured the entire layout to maximise the living and kitchen space. By removing the original laundry from the house and extending to the rear of the garage we were able to create a new laundry and extend the kitchen internally. This allowed us to create a distinct hallway through to the master bedroom and create a fourth bedroom.
Brief
We bought this house to renovate and then eventually sell so another family can enjoy it. We wanted to bring it back to life and ensure it worked for contemporary living while paying homage to it’s post war era roots. When designing, the primary goal was to add as much natural light and cross ventilation as possible given the property faces north/south. The finishes are an eclectic mix of traditional farmhouse classic and playful colour. A nice reflection of us!
