Balmain Residence

Balmain Residence

This project was created for a client who travels the world a great deal for work, as in, spends more time in hotels and on planes than in his home. After years of travelling, he’s refined his preferences to what features make sleeping, bathing & eating spaces function well, in turn, making his life more streamlined and pleasant.

These clear boundaries and requirements, in some ways, made the design decisions for this project more straight forward because with each decision it needed to pass the litmus test of, ‘Will this meet the brief of high function and aesthetic?’

The result - an uncomplicated yet highly refined bathroom that feels like a serene hotel day spa. Lighting acts as functional ‘artwork’ while the vanity has been designed mindfully to feel like a freestanding piece of ‘furniture’ rather than the status quo vanity. While a very limited materiality palette has been used, all finishes are of the highest quality with each very carefully considered and chosen to create a highly bespoke bathroom.

While the bathroom was the centrepiece of the renovation, we redecorated throughout the rest of the home.

Scope

This early 1900s semi detached period home in Sydney was 70% already ‘done’; our job was to put the icing on top and leave a polished and highly curated ‘finished’ home.

Scope included full bathroom and laundry renovation and complete redecoration and styling throughout.

Brief

To create a ‘hotel like’ feeling at home.

A home that’s a clean cut style but still feels warm and pays homage to the traditional architecture of the property.

Highly functional and efficient to help streamline a busy life but still be ‘beautiful’ and a place to enjoy spending time in on the times when our client is home.

From the client
